harvey Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Hey guys Having a issue working out my heights on this dem as im trying to use your maths layout wrinkley to do my distance mesh but as I have a - included i'm not sure where or how to calculate it, here is the details i have from qgis, is this going to need any editing or?
WrinkleysRule Posted August 29, 2024 Author Posted August 29, 2024 As the distance mesh plays no part of the map.dem terrain and is just a straightforward mesh object (basically decoration) then the figures can be left as is. Bear in mind that GE does not allow any negative heights (such as -2.1 etc ) also if the map dems lowest height is less than say 10 you will not be able to effectively create rivers/ponds etc
WrinkleysRule Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 Move what, the distance mesh or the map.dem itself
mackv21 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I'm so glad to have found this tutorial. Problem I'm having is all the DEM databases I keep trying are either in the wrong format or their websites don't work. Which is the recommended these days?
WrinkleysRule Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 What area of the world are you looking for ??? Also in which version of FS are you intending to create your map ?/
mackv21 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 The UK, and will be for FS25. I have since seen a different video following your tutorial, and the opendem website I get, and the one the video showed were different. I need to try and figure that out.
WrinkleysRule Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 (edited) England/ part of Northern Ireland dems (lidar 1 or 2m resoloution ) available here https://environment.data.gov.uk/survey Zoom in and draw the polygon around your area by just clicking on the four corners and then select Get available tiles, select product LIDAR Composite DTM select latest year (if choice available) Select resoloution required (1m will give the best resoloution but is a larger file per tile). Once all tiles downloaded copy/paste the .tif image into a new folder and follow the QGIS post on page 4 of this topic. map dem size in FS25 is 2048 x 2048 16bit Greyscale. Looking at the FS25 US map data folder there appears to be two 'dems' one labeled unprocessedHeightMap.png the other dem.png the only difference I can see is the unprocessed has 89 unique colours whereas the dem.png has 81 so there may be a converter or something aavailable in the new GE. A new DEM Tutorial will probably be created for FS25. Scotland has patchy LIdar data available here https://remotesensingdata.gov.scot/data#/map Wales LIdar data https://datamap.gov.wales/maps/lidar-viewer/ Edited November 15, 2024 by WrinkleysRule Clarification of Lidar Data for UK 1

mackv21 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Hey, have you seen this tool? Looks awesome. https://maps4fs.xyz/
WrinkleysRule Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 Yes, its worth a try as it makes a lot of things simpler and is being updated all the time with new stuff
FarmerPierce Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I am sooooooo stuck with the whole layers thing, can I use paint.net or Gimp to achieve this or do I have to use Photoshop to do it (Which I don't want to use a paid app to achieve the same result.)
WrinkleysRule Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 As stated at the beginning of the tutorial Paint.net is not recommended as it only saves greyscale images as index color which cause GE to throw errors. Gimp is highly suitable as it can save in all the necessary formats. Regarding photoshop, there is no need to pay for the app, there is a free legacy version of Photoshop CS2 which does almost everything needed for Giants Editor/Farming Simulator creations with just a couple of free plugins (Nvidia dds plugin,Super PNG) https://www.techspot.com/downloads/3689-adobe-photoshop-cs2.html If you are creating a map for FS25 I suggest you have a look at the DEM Creation using QGIS Tutorial which describes how to align the overlay GE image directly onto and follow the the terrain contour so the sand and grass overlays only need to be created if you require them
