Custom Mesh as Terrain – Enable Painting Tools on Non-Terrain Geometry

Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new to FS and the GIANTS Engine, coming from modding in the sim racing scene πŸ˜‰
Getting my head around how "terrain" works in GIANTS wasn't exactly easy at first πŸ˜…

I've modeled a complete field in Blender and don't really need the terrain generated via DEM. However, I’d love to use the built-in paint tools (e.g. for foliage, detail layers) on my custom terrain mesh.

1. Is there any wayβ€”or maybe a scriptβ€”that allows painting directly onto a mesh instead of the GIANTS terrain?

As a workaround, I converted my 3D mesh into a heightmap, imported it into GIANTS Editor, and adjusted the height scale to match my original mesh as closely as possible. The idea was to use this terrain as a dummy and paint foliage onto it so it visually "sticks through" my actual mesh.

So far, so good. But it seems there's no way to make the GIANTS terrain invisible while keeping the foliage visible. In some areas, the terrain still collides with my modeled roads, which breaks the illusion.

2. Is there any alternative method to create GIANTS terrain without relying on a DEM height file?

I hope this makes sense and that some of the experts here can point me in the right direction 😊

Thanks in advance!
